  2. This is the release of the IN-2000 Advanced SCSI Programming
  3. Interface (ASPI) Manager for DOS.  The ASPI Manager is an 
  4. industry standard software "front end" that allows the 
  5. IN-2000 SCSI host adapter to run any ASPI compliant software
  6. package (eg. CorelSCSI!, Central Point Utilities, Sytos Plus etc.).

  8. Follow the instructions below for installation of the IN-2000
  9. ASPI Manager for DOS.
  10.  
  11. Copy the file ASPIDRVR.SYS to your boot drive and add the
  12. following line to your CONFIG.SYS file:
  13.  
  14.         DEVICE=c:\path\ASPIDRVR.SYS
  15.  
  16. where c:\path\ is the drive and directory to which you copied
  17. the ASPI driver.
  18.         
  19. Currently, there are no parameters on the "DEVICE=" line.
  20.

  22. NOTES:
  23. ======

  25. If you are using an IN-2000 without any hard drives attached,
  26. the ASPI Manager will display the following message:
  27.  
  28.                 Always Int 13 handler not loaded
  29.  
  30. This is not a problem, since the Int 13 handler is used only to
  31. handle disk requests for DOS.  The IN-2000 BIOS may be disabled
  32. if you are using only non-disk peripherals such as tape drives
  33. with the ASPI Manager.  The BIOS MUST be enabled to run hard
  34. disks when using the ASPI Manager.
  35.  
  36. Up to four IN-2000 SCSI host adapter boards may be installed in
  37. a system running the ASPI Manager.  Only the one set to the
  38. lowest BIOS address will support hard disks.
  39.  
  40. The ASPI Manager requires that an interrupt channel on the
  41. IN-2000 be enabled.  Switches 5, 6 and 7 select the interrupt 
  42. channel.  Refer to the Installation Guide.
  43.  
  44. BIOS VCN:1-03 and later supports up to 7 SCSI hard drives 
  45. under DOS 5.0 and 6.0 without the need for a loadable device 
  46. driver.  Switch 8 = "ON" enables multiple drive support.  
  47. See the IN-2000 Installation Guide for more information 
  48. and/or check the ALWAYS BBS (818) 597-0275 for a BIOS update.

  50. Make certain to load any caching software (SMARTDRIVE, VCACHE,
  51. PC-KWIK etc.) after the ASPI Manager.  Most of these packages
  52. work by hooking the disk interrupt (Int 13h), which is replaced
  53. by the ASPI Manager.
  54.  
  55. Once the ASPI Manager is loaded DO NOT use any applications
  56. which use the old IN-2000 SCSI Shell.  Such applications
  57. include: Always' CD-ROM driver, NovaStor's NovaBack (ver 3.56D
  58. and earlier), IN-2000 drivers (with BIOS enabled) and Always'
  59. supplied Sytos PLUS drivers.  Both NovaBack and Sytos PLUS are
  60. shipped with ASPI compatible tape drivers that work with the
  61. IN-2000 ASPI Manager.  A CD-ROM driver will be released in the
  62. near future that is compatible with ASPI.

  64. DO NOT use the IN-2000 BIOS diagnostic or low level format
  65. functions (from DEBUG) while the ASPI Manager is loaded.  To
  66. perform diagnostics and/or to low level format a hard disk temp-
  67. orarily remove the ASPI manager from CONFIG.SYS.

  69. The ASPI Manager requires Hardware Revision 2.7 (An 8 pin
  70. socketed chip) on the IN-2000 SCSI host adapter.  If you do not
  71. have this Hardware Version, contact Technical Support for
  72. upgrades (818) 597-1400.
